“ The gene in question encodes a protein called neuropsin. Neuropsin is involved in memory and learning and is expressed only in neurons within the central nervous system. Although other primates express neuropsin, humans also produce a second form of the protein that is 45 amino acids longer than that found in our hairier cousins.
